Lot's of tarpon
Report Date: May 1, 2008
May saw some outstanding tarpon fishing both at South Beach and my "secret" spot near Crandon Park Marina. Not unusual to jump a few fish a day and land one. All of these fish are in the 100-150 lb range and are expert at taking you on a tour of every piece of structure they can find. Bob Signorello and his son Rob had an outstanding day fishing big, black fies they had tied themselves and jumped 4 fish and got 2 to the boat. Some of these fish were feeding on mullet in 3 feet of water in slick calm conditions. When drifting for them with spin tackle the best baits were still a large crab on 80 lb flourocarbon leader.
